Elementary Lab students incorporated the Charlie Numbers story into their school library garden where each class uses elements of a grade-appropriate book in their gardening project. She credited her husband Ben as her personal mentor in writing. The visit to the Elementary Lab was arranged by Principal Caron Coleman and a copy of her book was purchased for all second through fifth grade students. Mezrich said she was impressed with the reading levels of the Lab School students and their proficiency with chapter books.
Mezrich and her husband Ben, also a successful writer, wrote the first Charlie Numbers book in and it was chosen as the required summer reading for all sixth graders in Boston Public Schools. My jewelry turns heads, and makes the woman who wears it feel confident and beautiful. AS: How are you making the jewelry, with what kind of techniques? TM: I make the jewelry using wire bending and wrapping techniques, as well as incorporating mixed media. I do not have the lab space yet to do castings, but I would like to in the future.
TM: I look around at nature, and at what people are wearing fashion-wise, to get hints as to what jewelry would pair well for each season. I am also inspired by many successful jewelry designers such as Erickson Beamon and Alexis Bittar.
AS: Where is your pug while you are working? How jealous does he get that you need creative time or have you worked out an arrangement? He sometimes even gets to test run my jewelry to make sure the pieces are solid and wearable. TM: My favorite type of jewelry to design is necklaces.
I used to do a lot of earrings, but I moved over to necklaces, because I am really into the chunky statement piece style. People love this style because they can have the chunk without the damage that actual chunk causes! I used to just wear my lulu lemons out all day long. You never know who you might run into. But the pressure is kinda fun.
It takes a really creative process to come up with a good outfit that works well and is perfectly accessorized. I am lucky to have a good husband who helps vote on whether outfits make the pass or not. After exploring a few other careers like jewelry design and fashion design I decided to pursue a lifelong dream to become a writer. I was always drawn to writing in particular writing for youngsters.
And instead of college kids trying to break Vegas, we dreamt up this fantastic team of super smart middle schoolers who used math and science to solve mysteries. For the creation of the school, it took a little digging back in time. I really enjoyed meeting the students and visiting with them, learning about their experiences as students, since I was in their shoes years ago. However after visiting the school, nostalgia set in and I remembered very clearly as if it was yesterday my days spent with Mrs.
Kendrick studying English and literature in the downstairs classroom with college students peering down at us from above in the observation windows, and in the little lab working on math problems with Mrs.
