Our server recommended a great wine and the food was delicious as always. We had a wonderful time. Showed up at 6 for reservations for 5. Mind you, there were multiple open tables for 4 available that could be pushed together.
His response was that it just held you place in line. Never had service like this at any other restaurant, and never had issues the other 2 times I was there during the week. We will definitely not be back as there are other places with better quality and customer service in Austin. Excellent service, excellent meal, excellent atmosphere!!
Great business dinner, service, and atmosphere. Can be loud in main dining area. Would recommend. Great variety of food choices! Our table varied from Crab Cakes, to Shrimp to Burgers. Something for everyone! Waitstaff is always a huge plus. Very attentive and great attitudes. Makes the experience every time. Great service, wonderful selection, great brunch items. This was our first time back to Cafe Blue in about 2 years, as we moved out of state.
Came for dinner and sat outside. And there was hardly anyone at the restaurant. Ordered oysters, and the Wellfleet were inedible. A couple of the others were fine, but nothing special. They offered to replace the 3 that were bad, but we declined as everything was taking so long. Expected they might just take those three off the bill, but they did not. Ordered the mussel apprtizer, and the sauce was very sweet - not what I remembered, The Blue Cheese wedge salad had goldfish on it - maybe it was always this way and I forgot, but it seems like a strange topping.
The blue cheese olives in the martini were also not what they used to be. Our wait person explained that there has been lots of turnover 17 new hires in the past few months in in staff and management. I guess many places are struggling with staff issues - I hope Cafe Blue finds its way again.
My wife and I have been going since they started out on Lake Travis and were big fans. As it is, we moved our group brunch plans for the next day. I have eaten in this restaurant many times. Always with good results. Tonight was different and probably should be rated one star. However, cooking the food and serving it hot on the plate deserves more than that. I ordered the Louisiana Redfish which is a house specialty.
I have had this before. Tonight it was over salted and dry. I was particularly disturbed by what was clearly a complete lack of any mitigation related to the high incidence of COVID in this area. By observation only one of the 15 employees I saw was masked. Three of three waitstaff whom I encountered told me that they were were unvaccinated. People have a right do fo as they wish, but not when they prepare and serve my food. I would recommend that people who share my concern stay from this restaurant.
Yummy crab cake salad. Food is always good but not always consistently the same quality. Always very good service and I appreciate their wine selection. Simply put the service was horrible slow and at time non-existent , could not get drinks ordered, we ordered salad starters never arrived and the Redfish entree was cooked so badly overdone it was like leather.
Really disappointed in the decline of this once favorite restaurant. Wonderful food and our server was excellent. However, they're suffering as many others are with staff.
We waited 15 minutes with a reservation when I asked for a quiet table and then our meal took two hours although we ordered immediately. Waited 15 minutes for drinks, 30 for appetizer, an hour for entree.
Our server did the best he could under the circumstances, but Our brunch was underwhelming. Order was incorrect. How does a brunch place not have Espresso? Or Oatmilk? Menu just seems stuck in the past. Not modern or fresh. Hash browns are delicious, though. Nice server, good food. Enjoyed a seafood tower and a couple drinks.
We sat inside, but the outdoor seating looked very nice. Loved the ceviche! Thanks for signing up! However, a staff member mentioned to me last week that the already regular clientele was urging the owners to consider year-round service. It will be interesting to see whether or not it's possible to maintain the cafe's unique open-air waterside ambience on cold winter days, but the innovative team that conceived this delightful place may just figure it out. In the meantime, cooler weather won't be here for a while, so remember our admonition about cool clothes and dark sunglasses and make a Mediterranean excursion to Cafe Bleu.
Dining del Lago For years, eating out near Lake Travis was pretty strictly limited to burger joints, Tex-Mex places, fish shacks, and typical Texas roadside cafes. The update to our lakeside dining guide illustrates that all that may be steadily changing. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue supplying Austin with independent, free press.
