The optimistic part is that the community organized, spoke up, researched, and presented evidence in a way that is compelling and shows that we will, in the near future, start turning the tide and continue to preserve our heritage. In the City of San Antonio had declared the Malt House a historic landmark, yet the San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission did not agree with community members to stop the domolition and find a solution that would prevent its destruction.

The Malt House is no more, but history will show that the community did confront those in power and sought to preserve our memory and heritage. The documentation that the Westside Preservation Alliance presented to the San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission, makes the case for preservation of the building.

It must contain elements of the existing structure and spatial configuration that retain the sense of place, visible reminders of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage that are the basis of the historic land-marking of the Malt House, and thus of its meaning to the people of the West Side.

Best Double cheese burgers around. In this day in age, Nowhere! The service is great, people are friendly, dont go to the bathrooms if you dont have to. Its always cool to walk out of the place happy and full and still be able to buy a Go Spurs Go shirt or a Dallas Cowboys hat from some dude that has been selling bootlegged merchandise on a piknic table for a long time now. Two Thumbs up for the Malt House! A must try if you are ever visiting San Antonio! Every time our family visits we must make a pilgrimage to the Malt House!

Thick and tasty malts, and great burgers! I have not found another place that measures up to the Malt House. It is not upscale or fancy, but is a relaxed come as you are atmosphere. The locals have known about this place for years and even though a Sonic's was built not too far away-customers are still loyal to this place.

We at down and ordered lunch from our friendly waitress. She hurried back with our drinks and complimentary chips, salsa. They went a little crazy with the orange sponge paint on the walls but it gave the place character and it looked like they had fun doing it.

Main Menu. Enchiladas Cheese 3 per order. Enchiladas Beef 3 per order. Enchiladas Beef or Chicken 3 per order. Beef Tacos 3 per order. Chicken Tacos 3 per order. Chalupas 3 per order. Guacamole Chalupas 3 per order. Huevos Ranceros 2 Eggs. Guacamole Tacos 3 per order.

Guacamole Salad. Cile con Carne and Beans. Tamales 4 per order. Flauta Plate Beef or Chicken 3 per order. Ham and Eggs 2 Eggs. Chorizo con Huevo Plate. Steak Tampiqueno Carne Asada Steak. Mexican Dinner 1 Enchilada. One of the men ordered fried chicken, and I am definitely going to order it on my next visit. Mondays through Thursdays from 3 p. Who can resist that? The real test, however, was the malt. After all, this is the Malt House. The Malt House has drive-up service.
